About Me

Hi there, neighbor!

So who am I and why am I doing this?

Well…I have always loved gardening….ALWAYS, for as long as I can remember! When I was little at my Gramma’s house, she’d often find me

  • laying behind the ruhbarb in the garden playing with the earthworms,
  • or maybe I’d be hiding in the top of the tree in the yard,
  • or maybe I’d be in the strawberry patch shoveling one after another in my mouth,
  • or maybe I’d be building a fort in the dirt….

Who builds a dirt fort anyway???

Nonetheless, that is how I got my auspicious start!

You may not see those things as “gardening” but there was definitely a connection with the earth that I have always felt and have always been drawn to…the soil, the plants, the trees…it was where I felt most at peace, and still do.

I learned quite a bit from my Gramma and my parents and have used that over the years to garden and landscape the homes that I have lived in. And during that time I noticed something…there were lots of people that I knew who had homes themselves, and wanted them to look nicer, or at the very least taken care of, and they just didn’t know what to do.

I’ve also noticed that as I’ve gotten older, I’m 42 as I write this in 2013, many people I know want to get back to basics like producing some of their own food, but again, they just don’t know what to do or where to start.

I thought that if I could create a website that would teach people the very basic skills they would need to build a garden, or improve their home’s landscape, they would have enough confidence to take it as far as they’d like.

I started this site so people could go someplace where it was ok to “not know anything.” It’s always hard to start something when you have little to no knowledge about the subject, and sometimes you don’t even know what you don’t know…I have been in that position too many times in my life to count, and I wanted others to have a safe place to learn!

There was one problem…..as I started this site in 2008, I noticed that I didn’t know quite as much as I thought I did. I also thought that if I were going to be “teaching” others, I needed to make sure that the information I was providing was of the highest quality and as accurate as possible.

So in 2011, I finally started working on my associates degree in horticulture. As I learn new things, so do you. I am adding more and more information on here all the time as I slowly plod through each course. I promise to keep it all straight forward and as helpful to a beginner as possible.

Who knows…maybe even the more seasoned gardeners will get something from it? 🙂

I also built this site for me and my family. It is my hope that some day
I will be able to earn my income from it and be able to spend my time
doing what I love the most.

When you do what you love, your entire being is transformed and you are better able to serve those who you love the most.

My hope is to do the very best for my family and the very best for you. I am so grateful that you have visited this site, and hope that you get as much out of it as I have intended.
